Assignment1

Personmal Information

My name is Muhammad Umer Tariq and I am currently enrolled in Bachelor of Computer Science at RMIT university. My student number is s3782874 and my email is utariq68@hotmail.com. I am from Pakistan so I can speak the national language of Pakistan which is Urdu, and from past three years I am residing in Australia so I can fluently speak English as well. I like to do workout in my free time.

Interest in IT

My interest in IT was from the start. In Pakistan we (my siblings) had to use only one desktop and we had to wait for our turn to play game on desktop. I always liked computer games fun and wanted to go in some field which is related to computer games but in last two years as the awareness has been started about social scams, and I also became victim of one in which I allowed a scammer to hack in my father’s laptop. From that very day I started researching how can I stop these things happening. I was quite thrilled by looking at that job and demand for it, as the technology is developing day by day, hacking is also happening more, so I found this field cyber security which has a lot of demand in today’s world.

RMIT was my first preference for computer science and it is famous for engineering degrees more. I heard a lot of positive things about RMIT from my teachers, friends and on internet. I attended an ATAR notes lecture at RMIT in my year 12. I liked that it was not much far from my home, I didn’t have to spend much time on public transport to come to university. I didn’t like that RMIT is only two stations away from my dad’s office. But I think it was the best decision to come to RMIT.

I expect to gain the knowledge of programming, security of computers, basic IT knowledge and one of my most favourite topic artificial intelligence. I would like to learn as many programming languages as possible.

Ideal job

To know about my ideal job click me. I will need good skills in programming, degree in Bachelor of Computer Science and experience of at least 3 years is a requirement. I do not have much skills now apart from some basic knowledge of JAVA programming, I am a student Bachelor of Computer Science and I am in second semester only. To obtain the required skills for my ideal job, I will need to put extra effort in my learning, complete my degree and I should gain knowledge on different parts of cyber security like learning how to create a firewall. I should also find an internship in my second year of university so by the time I finish my degree I will be close enough to get my dream job of cyber security analyst.

Personal Profile

These are the results from Myer-Briggs, learning style and Big Five personality tests. By these results you might be getting an idea about me as I was the one who answered the questions of these tests but to be honest, I do not believe that these results can define me 100%, they would be correct to an extent as I have answered the questions and it shows the results on base of the answers. In my opinion, it truly depends on real life situations that how I am going to react to the things. Reactions can be different for each time as it will be a different case for each incident, whether it is being angry whether it is the thinking of any mistake which I did.

Everyone has few drawbacks and some qualities, most probably I would also have drawbacks and qualities, but I am not sure what they are in my character. To be perfect in team projects I will need to over come my drawbacks and know how to effectively use my abilities. According to the Myers-Briggs test I have an INJTT type of personality which is introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging, Turbulent. It is a good thing as it shows I can make good decisions and I have the right attitude of meeting people. If we see the test results, I will conclude that I will be working perfectly fine in the team because it says I have quick, strategic and imaginative mind and it also says I am hard working and determined. According to learning style test I am an auditory learner and I think there should be someone like that in the team who learns by listening to others.

When forming a team I would like to be with the people of different personalities apart from being friendly so that everyone could look at things quite differently and draw some effective points which I might miss and if I am missing them people similar to personality of mine will miss as well. And when working in the team I would like if my team members would be competitive so that we would have eagerness to score good marks for the team.

Project Ideas

Overview

The project I would really like to work on will be study app. The study app was the part of research for another subject user centred design in semester one. The study app will save students time they spend searching for the right article online on browser they will just search it on the app, and everything will be available to them right on the app. There are a lot of students relying upon the online resources for their assignments, for understanding the concepts. In my year 12 I use to struggle with math methods, so I also used to spend online to understand the integration concepts and I rarely find one affective article after spending more than half an hour only on searching. This app might help people like me.

Motivation

From our survey results we can see that we hit mostly a younger demographic. Given our location of surveying this was to be expected. However only 42.5% of our survey respondents have used a study app before and for the purposes of our survey, this is the group we want to target, the group of university students. In my research we have I have investigated other study apps and they had nothing new to offer. In my study app I want to stick with similar ideas, but I will try to make best use of them in the way I think they will be most effective for users. This will reduce hassle which, a lot of times, people want to avoid and eventually do not want to commit to the apps. Moreover, this will be a free app available to every smartphone user which will grab a greater number of customers in the long run as easy feasibility and affordability are the first criteria that needs to be resolved. There aren't many apps that offer everything in free which will be where this project would be different and interesting.

Description

Students these days relies on online materials put by others on internet to take help in their studies or get an idea in something related to what they are doing, and I am one of them. So, I would like if people across the globe will be able to share their research, there notes with others. There will also be an option to work in group or individual, putting bookmarks and adding things to the favourite list. The app will also allow its users to create different folders for different subjects and to search for related material in the search tab which will help the users to find something which could help them. The app can also be used by schoolteachers for the whole class to put some stuff for the students, and in the comment section of that study material students can leave a comment if they encounter any problems.

The app’s main purpose is to provide university students from all around the world with access to millions of study notes and card decks for which ever subject they are taking at university and feel like they need to do a little bit extra to maintain their current grades or even to improve them with the help of these extra materials. The app provides these resources via user submitted entries, of which anyone who possesses the app can create. Hence, the user of the app can also choose to create their own study materials rather than select from the vast amount of already created materials, but by method of how the app itself works, these self-created entries will be available for any other student who wishes to learn about the same subject area to download and add to their own collection.

Users can create electronic cue cards designed to remember content for a specific course/subject. The app will help in making this convenient by registering cue cards made by students and posts suggestions of similar content shared by other users on the side of the page, which can then be added into the user’s own set of cards.

Users can create classes and add other users to them, allowing them to collaborate on cards for study. The cue cards can be shared via a link between users. A weakness of this app is the pro feature, which blocks users (even in the same class) from accessing all cue cards created in a certain set unless they pay for the “pro feature” to unlock it, this limits users’ ability to access content and study.

Tools and techniques

To create a mobile application, I will require eclipse in JAVA as that is the only language, I am little bit familiar at the moment. To create a UX design for the app I will need Buildfire software as it will allow me to create a working prototype of my application or I could some other software like adobe experience design. Once the app is complete, I will need to join iOS developer program and android developer program to publish the app.

Skills required

In order to complete my project, I will need to learn JAVA programming completely. I would need java and will be working in eclipse workspace to create an app for the android system. For an IOS, use of Multi-OS engine will be required. This is an open source technology that allows to create android and IOS apps in Java.

Outcome

If the project is successful, my app could be one of the most used apps Everything will be free not like the other study apps where students need to pay the subscription fee for the additional features. Students will not have to rely on the tons of information to find a single bit of information they are looking for; they will get the information on base of their search. This might help the students to make their study time effective.
